Education & Outlook

   2010 Educational Events:  In March Lori, Lisa , Ginny & Carol attended The International Beauty Show in NYC, new tools, tricks and techniques.  We hosted an In Salon Design class with Lauren Hagen.  Lauren shared some great new disconnection techniques to add swing and movement to all hair lengths and textures.  Alyssa, Lisa, Ginny, Sarah, Alice N. Carol, Sue, Marie & Robin attended Weekend In The City (at Foxwoods) with Sam Villa and Kris Sorbie, 2 days of new cut, color and finish techniques. Intense Color with Beth Minardi was attended by: Alyssa, Sarah, Marie, Steph M., Shirley, Ginny, Crystal, Couttney, Steph P., & Lisa.

2009 Educational Events:  In January, Susan, Ginny, Lisa and Alyssa attended The Redken Symposium in Las Vegas.  March brought our second SWAP Event which focused on Customer Service.  The International Beauty Show in NYC was in April.  The IBS is an opportunity to see all kinds of new tools, tricks and techniques.  Courtney, Alyssa, Lisa, Steph M., Diane, Steph P., Susan, Sara B., Lori and Carol attended.  In May we hosted a Keratin Smoothing System Certification at That Look.  Get this new treatment to control frizz, add shine and smooth unruly hair.  Robin & Ginny were certified the end of 2008, joining them; Steph P., Alyssa, Lori, Lisa, Jen, Courtney, Steph M., Rachel, Sarah, Crystal, Ann and Alice N..  In June Steph P., Crystal, Diane, Carol & Shirley registered for an advanced Sorme Cosmetics Class which ended up being held at That Look.  Many more of our staff were able to participate.  Alyssa and Carol attended The Next Level in Providence, a multi distributer trade and education event.  Lots of break out education and new products.  Sarah, Courtney, Ginny and Lisa went to NYC for three days of classes at the Redken Exchange "Everything's Included" on 5th Ave!  Carol and Steph M. spent a day with Beth Minardi "Intense Color".

KERATIN SMOOTHING SYSTEM UPDATE (AUG. 2009)  We have decided to discontinue offering Keratin Smoothing Treatments.

 2008 Educational Events at That Look were kicked off on Feb with the Front Desk Team - Sue, Sara, Cyndie and Jenny- heading to Centerbrook for 2 days of training at Strategies.  In March Sue and Sara followed up with an additional 3 days of Management Success Training. The end of March brought our first SWAP (Salons With A Purpose) event, which was a full day packed with fun and new ideas. In April, 7 of the staff headed to Providence for a Weekend in the City Event.  An additional 6 of us headed to New York in April for the International Beauty Show. June brought John Yurkew to the salon for Mens Design. October brought Justin Isaac for two days of coloring with his Life, Art, Color classes. In November Ginny and Robin became Keratin Complex Hair Therapy Certified. This conditioning and smoothing service has become extremely popular.

   2007 Educational Events at That Look included updo styling and long hairdressing with Jay Roberts.  A great  two day styling and design session with Sam Villa in July.  Sam showed us two of his newest designs.  Modern versions of classic styles, boblike and shaglike. We revisited the bob in September when Sam asked us to participate in his first educational DVD by filming in our salon with our staff as on camera stylists!  Stylists all over the globe are looking forward to it's release!  David Stanko spent two days with us, sharing his color knowledge, exploring newly launched tones and reinforcing our foiling techniques.  Off site training included Lisa traveling to The Redken Exchange NYC and becoming That Look's first Redken Certified Hair Colorist.  Lisa passed a comprehensive written, intense practical and scenario test based on Hair color Principles, Creative Color, Foil Placement and Color Correction.  Eight of us traveled to New Hampshire for The Redken Experience with Sam Villa and Kitty Victor.  Sue was asked to speak to a group of salon owners, sharing That Looks positive experiences with Redken and our Great Distributor, Masello Brothers.  Our Nail Department attended an all day hands on Hot Stone Therapy Session.  Hot Stone Therapy relieves tension and stress and eases aches and pain.  DeeDee, Diane & Myrna are looking very forward to sharing these rejuvenating services.

That Look Salon Earns Redken Educational Excellence Award!

  We are still celebrating the recognition bestowed upon us by Redken.  Every other year, during their Symposium, Redken hosts a special award ceremony paying tribute to the outstanding achievements of their Elite Salons.  Earning the Redken Educational Excellence Award makes us very proud, and inspires us to continue to invest ourselves passionately in our careers !

February, 2007  –  That Look Salon of East Lyme, Connecticut has won the prestigious Redken Educational Excellence Award. Owner Susan Parkinson was presented this honor at a reception during the 2007 Redken International Symposium in Las Vegas.
 That Look provides consistent in-salon training sessions for their staff, having recently hosted Chris Baran & Kris Sorbie together, Redken’s Global Artistic Directors of Design & Color respectively. In addition That Look Salon frequently attends classes at the Redken Exchange in New York City where they have participated in over 75 days of training in order to provide the best possible service for their guests.

 While in Las Vegas, Parkinson, along with nine members of her salon team, joined 10,000 hairdressers from around the globe to take part in the salon industry’s premiere educational event. The classes ranged from learning the latest trends and techniques in hair design and color, as well as how to provide their clients with the latest styles from the fashion runways.

 During the Symposium, Redken hosted a special award ceremony paying tribute to the outstanding achievements of their Elite Salons, the crème de la crème of their group. Roughly 75,000 salons use and recommend Redken products, and of that number 200 are VIP and another 75 are considered Elite. Winning the Redken Educational Excellence Award places That Look Salon at the top of this list when it comes to outstanding education across the country.
